Alum Creek Ohio

November 28th. Very windy today leaving the truck stop. We are heading toward Delaware just north of Columbus and plan on checking in at Alum Creek State Park.

Here is a bit of history about Alum Creek Park. During the 50 years prior to the Civil War, the border State of Ohio offered many routes for the Underground Railroad by which slaves escaped to freedom. Over 40,000 slaves passed northward through Ohio along these paths. It is called The Sycamore Trail. The slaves' guideposts were often the ghostly white bark of this flood plain tree. Slaves waded in the waters of the creek attempting to elude the pursuing trackers.

Looking at the nature on our walk around the park
Ruth noticed a peculiar tree looking almost like a maple with little prickly things on its fruit, it is actually a tree called the MAPLE-BEECH tree.

Today the temperature was 21 degrees Celsius

Going on the road

Well, finally it is a reality and we are on our way. It is now the 27th of November and it is Thanksgiving here in the USA.
We said our farewells at home and were on our way at 11:10. We crossed over at Sarnia and went straight down into Ohio to a town called Van Buren. The RV park where we had planned to stay was closed, (in the RV book it was shown to be open all year).

We decided to stay at an highway truck stop. There must have been about 30 large transport trucks parked with their drivers eating their supper, resting and sleeping. A lot of trucks were coming and going during the night. It was fairly noisy because many had their engines idling.

We had a good sleep and we were happy to find a place to spend the night!
